The Oklahoma City Zoo invites bird enthusiasts to celebrate Bird Awareness Day on April 6, showcasing the importance of avian species and their conservation. Visitors can enjoy a variety of educational activities, including interactive stations and close encounters with bird ambassadors, in the Children’s Zoo and Dan Moran Aviary areas from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. This event, free with regular Zoo admission, also features caretaker chats and the chance to learn directly from the Zoo's bird experts. Attendees are encouraged to wear flamingo pink and will receive a complimentary water bottle from Shape Your Future while supplies last.
The Oklahoma City Zoo, home to 77 bird species, underscores the critical need for bird conservation, highlighting the challenges birds face, such as habitat loss and illegal trade. Through initiatives like the Round Up for Conservation Fund and support for the AZA’s SAFE program, the Zoo is actively involved in both local and global efforts to protect bird populations
