The Pecan Street Festival, organized by The Pecan Street Association since 2006, is recognized as one of the country's largest and longest-running arts, crafts, and music festivals. As a nonprofit organization, the association uses proceeds from the festival to support the preservation of historic 6th Street in Downtown Austin, Texas.
The festival honors the original name of the street, reflecting on Austin's unique history. Edwin Waller designed the street grid, with north-south streets named after Texas rivers, while east-west streets were initially designated by trees. Although Pecan Street became known as Sixth Street, the festival embraces its historical roots.
