Mayfield Park, a tranquil 23-acre oasis in Austin, Texas, features a charming cottage available for weddings and events, alongside unique ponds adorned with water lilies. It's famously home to vibrant peacocks, adding a unique ambiance with their presence and calls. The park also hosts a variety of wildlife including herons, koi fish, turtles, and boasts the largest stand of Sabal Texana palms north of the Rio Grande. Walking paths meander through volunteer-maintained cottage gardens, offering a serene escape filled with heritage plants that bloom year-round.
The park’s history dates back to 1909 when Allison Mayfield purchased it for his family. Over the years, the Mayfield-Gutsch family expanded and beautified the property, eventually bequeathing it to the City of Austin in 1971. Since then, the community and the Mayfield Park/Community Project have been dedicated to its restoration, following a master preservation plan. Karen Cannatti, a long-standing volunteer, emphasizes the park’s historical and restorative significance.
