Since its inception in 1998, the Mexic-Arte Museum's Taste of Mexico has grown into a premier event in Austin, attracting over 1,200 attendees in 2019. The event showcases a vast array of Mexican-inspired culinary delights from more than 50 of Austin's vibrant restaurants and food trucks, along with a selection of fine tequilas and mezcales, under this year's theme of Antojitos. Participants will also enjoy food demonstrations, music, and various activities, offering a rich cultural experience.
The initiative supports the Mexic-Arte Museum's arts education programs, which have been fostering creativity and empowering Austin's youth for the past thirty-nine years. Through initiatives like family days, internships, tours, and the award-winning Screen It! program, the museum has played a crucial role in introducing young people to the arts and potential careers in the art field. Screen It! notably received the 2016 National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award, endorsed by then-First Lady Michelle Obama.
