The Neill-Cochran House Museum is hosting a Juneteenth 2024 commemoration, offering an insightful experience from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm. The event features guided tours of the Slave Quarters, a unique historical site in Austin, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm, followed by a heartfelt welcome and a gospel choir performance by Christopher D. Spivey & Co. Guests can enjoy lunch available until supplies last, and the event will conclude with an exhibit opening reception for 'A Juneteenth Rodeo' - a photographic journey through late 1970s Black rodeo culture by Sarah Bird, complemented by cocktails from Milam & Greene Whiskey.
This celebration aims to honor Juneteenth by sharing significant cultural heritage and the vibrant history of Black rodeos through engaging activities and the arts. Visitors have the opportunity to explore the only intact and accessible slave dwelling in Austin, uplift their spirits with live gospel music, and be among the first to witness the joy and resilience captured in Sarah Bird's photographs.
