The program opens with 'The Big Country,' composed by Jerome Moross in 1956, which is recognized for its expansive and cinematic portrayal of the American West. Following this, the concert will present three selections from the 'Grand Canyon Suite,' a masterpiece by Ferde Grofe completed between 1928 and 1932. This suite is known for its vivid musical imagery that captures the grandeur of the Grand Canyon.
The concert will also feature 'Flee As A Bird,' a recent composition by Texas native Dr. M L Daniels, created in 2024. This piece adds a contemporary voice to the concert, showcasing the evolution of musical expression related to the Southwest. Lastly, the performance will include the 'Suite from Billy The Kid,' composed by Aaron Copland in 1939, which tells the story of the American cowboy through its engaging melodies and rhythms.
