The Commemorative Air Force's (CAF) Aviation Discovery Fest is set to take place in Dallas from October 4-6, 2024. This event provides a family-friendly opportunity to explore the excitement of aviation. Visitors can look forward to a range of activities including cockpit tours of vintage aircraft, educational exhibits, hands-on projects for children, and food trucks. Admission allows access to the static ramp, vendors, a kids' area, and free parking, although cockpit tours do require an additional ticket.
A highlight of the festival is the Living History experience, one of the largest of its kind in the country. Attendees will encounter re-enactors and military vehicles, bringing historical wartime experiences to life. Children can enjoy rides in military transport vehicles like half-tracks, adding to the immersive experience.
The Aviation Discovery Zone, located inside the Henry B. Tipple National Aviation Education Center (NAEC), offers interactive educational experiences and live performances. Throughout the weekend, veterans will recount their stories, often alongside historic aircraft that played significant roles during their service.
The festival will also include a classic car show, showcasing restored vehicles from the 1930s to the 1960s. Attendees will have the chance to see more than 20 historic aircraft on display, with rides available on several iconic models such as the B-29 Superfortress “FIFI,” the P-51 Mustang “Gunfighter,” and the C-47 Skytrain “That's All, Brother.”
