The Cottonwood Art Festival, which began in 1969, has grown into one of the most distinguished fine art festivals in the United States. Initially held in Richardson, Texas, the festival started with local artists displaying their works on blankets in a casual atmosphere. Over the years, the event has evolved into a signature celebration of art and culture, now taking place twice a year in May and October, attracting top artists from across the country.
The festival features an extensive lineup of activities, including live performances on the Imagery Courtyard and Acoustic Stages. Attendees can enjoy a craft beer garden, a selection of food trucks, and over 190 artist booths showcasing artwork from around the globe. Families can also engage in creative experiences at the ArtStop area, which offers hands-on activities for children to explore various art forms such as weaving, clay modeling, and more. Many ArtStop activities come with a small fee, while others, like chiseling and chalk art, are available for free.
The upcoming festival on October 5–6 will highlight Jay Long from Austin, TX, as the featured artist. Long is known for his unique oil paintings that blend curious creatures, mechanics, and emotional themes.
The festival schedule for this year is set for Saturday, October 5, from 10 AM to 7 PM, and Sunday, October 6, from 10 AM to 5 PM. An exciting highlight is the annual Chalk the Walk Art Contest, where artists can showcase their talents
