The annual run/walk for mental health awareness, hosted by the Parenting for the Present Foundation, is scheduled for Saturday, October 5, from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Smith Park in University Park. This event includes various activities such as games, treats, and photo opportunities, alongside the main event of the run/walk.
Proceeds from the event are directed towards enhancing services for children in need. The Mending Minds Walk aims to support the foundation's initiatives to offer executive functioning, psychoeducational, and therapeutic services at both St. Philip's School and Community Center and The King's Academy.
At St. Philip's School, clinicians engage with students to improve self-regulation, working memory, flexible thinking, and organizational skills. Students are motivated to continue practicing these skills both in educational settings and at home.
At The King's Academy, clinicians provide therapy, employing play-based activities to facilitate both individual and group therapy sessions. These interactions emphasize building relationships, understanding students' emotional experiences, and teaching coping mechanisms, all of which contribute to the social and emotional growth of each child.
