The lake spans 1,200 acres and caters to serious anglers and water enthusiasts alike, offering a variety of activities including boating, skiing, fishing, and camping across four designated areas. Visitors can also enjoy a wildlife preserve and 16 miles of hiking trails. The parks around the lake-Cedar Breaks Park, Jim Hogg Park, Russell Park, and Tejas Park-provide essential amenities such as boat ramps, camping facilities with RV hook-ups, restrooms, and showers.
Cedar Breaks Park is situated on the south shore near the dam and features a four-lane concrete boat ramp. Jim Hogg Park, located mid-lake on the north shore, also has a similar ramp. Russell Park, continuing the theme, provides a camping and swimming area along with a boat ramp. Each of these parks is operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and remains accessible year-round from early morning until 10 PM, with provisions for 24-hour exits.
Fishing opportunities abound in the lake, which is known for its diverse species, including small and largemouth bass, white bass, and various catfish. The three parks with boat ramps are highlighted on a map for easy navigation. In addition to developed camping options, there are areas for primitive camping, picnic spots, group shelters, and a swimming beach available for use.
Each park also offers ADA accessibility, cleaning stations for fish, courtesy docks, and in some cases, boat gas. For more detailed information about the facilities and services available, interested individuals are encouraged to consult the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' website.
