The opening day of the State Fair of Texas kicks off with a big "Howdy, Folks!" from Big Tex himself, the fair's iconic 55-foot cowboy. Stop by the Big Tex Circle for a photo and let this towering Texan welcome you to the fairgrounds. Once you're there, grab a classic Corny Dog from Fletcher's-it's a must for any State Fair visitor. In the morning, explore Big Tex's Discovery Farm, an interactive exhibit featuring real piglets, hatching chicks, and educational presentations that teach visitors about farming and agriculture in Texas.

After lunch, check out the Chevrolet Ride & Drive, where you can test out some of the latest models from Chevrolet, including their electric and hybrid lineup. For kids and animal lovers, head to the Oncor Petting Zoo at Pan Am Arena to interact with farm animals like goats, zebras, and even emus. The thrill continues into the evening with live music on the Chevrolet Main Stage, featuring performances by Croy and the Boys in the afternoon and Matt Hillyer in the evening. Conclude your night at the Mattress Firm Illumination Sensation light show, set against the Esplanade, with fireworks, high-energy music, and choreographed performances from acrobats and dancers.

Satisfy your sweet tooth by grabbing a Churro Crumble Cheesecake from Drizzle Cheesecakes or Caramel Macchiato Fritters from Crazy Ottos. Don't forget to explore the new vendors at the fair this year-newcomers like Rita's Italian Ice are a great way to cool off in the Texas heat. Take home a souvenir cup and cheers to Texas while savoring some of the fresh new tastes offered at this year's fair.
