The Oklahoma City Zoo is celebrating its Centennial Anniversary at Lincoln Park from June 7-9, 2024, marking 100 years since its establishment at this location. In honor of this significant milestone, the Zoo is hosting a series of special activities and inviting the public to join in the celebrations. Commemorating its rich history, from its initial set up in Wheeler Park in 1902 to its relocation to Lincoln Park in 1924 due to flooding, the Zoo now spans 130 acres and cares for over 1,000 animals.
For the occasion, the Zoo has planned a range of events, including a flash membership sale, key giveaways for the first 500 families visiting on June 8 and 9, vintage postcard photo-ops, and special animal enrichments. The celebrations aim to showcase the Zoo's evolution and achievements in animal care and conservation, credited largely to community support and engagement. Dr. Dwight Lawson, the Zoo's executive director, expressed gratitude for the continued support that has fuelled the Zoo's growth and world-class expansions.
