The Rotary Club of Georgetown TX Foundation hosts the Field of Honor®, a week-long event aimed at honoring military personnel and first responders. Featuring the display of over 2,000 full-size, dedicated, 3′ x 5′ US flags, this impactful event invites visitors to pay tribute to veterans, active military members, first responders, K9 Units, and Equestrian heroes. Attendees can adopt a flag or dedicate it to the POW/MIA section, and the event is free to the public, available for viewing 24/7 throughout the week.
Funds generated from the sale of the flags support the Rotary Club Foundation, which provides grants to selected non-profits that assist veterans and first responders in areas such as mental health support, family aid, and employment transitions. Additionally, some proceeds aid in funding various service projects aimed at these groups.
This year's 8th Annual Field of Honor® will be hosted at San Gabriel Park, utilizing a sprawling 10-acre area for the flag display. A notable feature this year is the “Remembering Our Fallen” exhibit by Patriotic Productions, which consists of thirty-four ten-foot towers showcasing images of heroes lost in the war on terrorism since September 11, 2001, serving as a poignant reminder of sacrifice.
Flags can be dedicated both online and at the event. Each flag is available for a donation and there are options for reposting flags from prior years at a reduced cost. Flags will be picked up during designated times on the second weekend or can be shipped for an additional fee. Those opting for reposted flags must ensure they are in perfect condition, as they need to be inspected before being placed in the exhibit. A new dedication tag is crafted for each flag, making it easy to locate with the assistance of available docents.
For each flag purchased, patrons are encouraged to bring a laminated 5 x 7 photograph of their honored heroes, which will be attached to the respective flag at no extra charge. They have the option to include a brief story about their hero on the back of the photo, enhancing the personal tribute and allowing others to appreciate their service.
The event will kick off with an OPENING CEREMONY on Sunday, November 10, featuring a keynote speaker, performances by the 36th Infantry Band from Camp Mabry, flyovers, military vehicle displays, and K-9 demonstrations. A special Veterans Day Ceremony is also scheduled for November 11, further emphasizing the community's commitment to honoring those who have served.
