  • Free Shakespeare In the Park: Romeo and Juliet (A New Approach)

Austin Shakespeare collaborates with the University of Austin to present a refreshing rendition of 'Romeo and Juliet'. Directed by Ann Ciccolella, this adaptation draws inspiration from the 1930's period crime drama, Peaky Blinders, incorporating live and recorded mid-20th-century music. The production, supported by University of Austin President Dr. Pano Kanelos, is staged at a unique Elizabethan theater replica on Lake Austin's shores, highlighting the city's cultural heritage.

Celebrating its 38th annual Free Shakespeare in the Park, this year's event takes place at The Curtain, adapting to renovations at Barton Springs Pool in Zilker Park. Artistic Director Ann Ciccolella expresses pride in continuing Austin's long-standing tradition of offering free Shakespeare performances, inviting both long-time residents and newcomers to experience this 'old Austin' tradition, showcasing the city's dedication to fostering a vibrant arts scene.
