The 20th Annual Plano Archeology Fair will take place on November 9th from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at Haggard Park in downtown Plano. This free event invites the public to explore the prehistoric past through various engaging activities and demonstrations.
Highlighting the event are performances by the Bear Claw Drummers and Dancers, a Native American performing group, scheduled for 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. In addition to these cultural presentations, there will be demonstrations of flintknapping, showcasing the traditional art of stone toolmaking.
Families can enjoy a selection of hands-on crafts designed for children, offering activities such as cornhusk doll making, rock painting, and pinch pot crafting. Other creative options include a petroglyph wall, pictographs, corn grinding, bracelet making, and face painting. These interactive experiences aim to educate young participants about the cultural significance of archaeology through fun and engaging methods.
For those interested in the technical aspects of archaeology, the fair will feature a dedicated section for aspiring archaeologists. This includes a mock archaeology dig, a table for faunal analysis, and displays of both historic and prehistoric artifacts. Attendees will also have the chance to learn about career opportunities in archaeology and the importance of preserving significant archaeological sites. Scouts BSA working towards their archaeology merit badge will find activities aligned with their requirements in this section as well.
